As of today, Easter Sunday, you can search for properties based on safety in Perth and Western Australia. This is no April Fool's joke. While people in Sydney are enjoying an extra hour of sleep today, Perthites (?) get to enjoy a new feature on finderful.com.
Of course, there are still other factors to consider when home-hunting, but crime is an important one, especially for those of us with families. If you want to suggest more factors for us to add, please contact us.
Crime data for Perth/WA
The Western Australia Police Force recently made crime statistics available. As such, you can find a few websites that show the crime information on a map. We go one step further and integrate this crime information into your home search.
By default, we show homes in safe neighbourhoods, but if you're interested in seeing homes in the safest neighbourhoods, you can do that by adjusting the importance slider. Likewise, if you are not worried about safety, you can adjust the importance slider to tell us not to account for safety. We measure safety roughly as your likelihood to be a victim of a crime, based on the home. That is, we consider offences such as burglary but don't include offences such as fraud.
Other factors when house-hunting
Crime isn't the only aspect when searching for a new home. You also consider the commute to your job and other places you frequently visit. Our home search takes this into account as well, letting you restrict your search based on commute time, as well as offering an importance slider. The importance slider lets you control the results to show cheaper or closer homes.

For those of you that have been following us, you know we're always adding new factors and features. Safety and transport are still our two most-loved factors. Stay tuned as we add more in the future.
